The Tallis Scholars

Peter Phillips' early-music ensemble, the world's leading interpreters of Renaissance sacred polyphony.

About the choir

Founded in 1973 by Peter Phillips, The Tallis Scholars are widely regarded as the leading exponents of Renaissance sacred music. Through their own Gimell label they have released numerous award-winning recordings, including the 1980 reading of Allegri's Miserere — still considered one of the finest accounts of the work. The choir performs over seventy concerts a year worldwide and has done more than any other single ensemble to popularise Renaissance polyphony for modern audiences.
