Pieter Maessens (born: c1505 died: 10 December 1562) was a Dutch 16th Century composer. Pieter Maessens was a member of Ferdinand’s chapel; in earlier life he had been a soldier in the service of the Emperor Charles, before taking holy orders and becoming chapelmaster at Courtrai. His dismissal from that position in 1543 for neglect of his duties and heavy drinking did not prevent his appointment to the imperial establishment, where he probably remained until his death in 1562.
