
Mostafa Abd El Khalek was born in Cairo (exact birth-date not publicly documented) and emerged as one of Egypt’s foremost qanun soloists in the mid-20th century. He served many years as a principal musician in the Umm Kulthūm Orchestra and Egyptian Radio ensemble, collaborating with the greatest singers of the era including Umm Kulthūm, Abdel Halim Halim and Farid al-Atrash. His recorded taqāsīm (instrumental improvisations) and ensemble contributions are widely regarded for their clarity of articulation
