Johann Wolfgang Kleinknecht (1715–1786) was a German violinist and composer whose career traces the pathways of an ambitious court musician in the mid-18th century. Born in Ulm on 17 April 1715 into a musical family, he received his first instruction from his father, the Ulm musician Johann Kleinknecht, and was already performing with enough distinction to attract princely attention while still a child. In 1733 he entered the orbit of the Württemberg court at Stuttgart as a chamber musician
