Born in the Mzimba District in northwestern Malawi, Gasper began his musical career in 1998 by teaching himself to play the babaton, a self-made traditional Malawian instrument that features one string played with a hammer and slide. In 2002, Gasper moved from Mzimba to Nkata Bay, where he currently performs for live audiences at local venues.
