(b c 1570; d ?London, after 1652). English composer. He was organist of Dulwich College (1622-4) and of Charterhouse (1626-43). At least 40 of his keyboard pieces survive, chiefly in ‘Cosyn's Virginal Book’ which he compiled, including voluntaries, elaborate plainsong settings, dances and genre-pieces; these show Bull's influence. John Cosyn (d 1508-9), composer of 57 extended five- and six-part psalm settings in Musike (1585), may have been his father.
