Barry Sangare, born around 1955 in Mali / region of Ouasolo, has been a singer, n'goni- and djembe-player. After the death of his father, he had to live at his uncle's house from where he ran away to work later with Adama Drame and Yussuf Kante in the Ivory Coast. He lived then at Ferkessedougou in the North of Ivory Coast and worked as solo-drummer for traditional events, accompaniing occasionally Griot-singer Sali Sidibe and was musical leader of the local dance company which took him along for his first trip to Europe touring in France.
