History
Founded in 1955 as the European Champion Clubs' Cup, UEFA's premier club competition has crowned every great European football team of the modern era, from Real Madrid's five consecutive titles in the 1950s, to AC Milan's Sacchi-Capello dynasty, Manchester United's 1999 treble, Barcelona's tiki-taka teams, and Real Madrid's record 15 European Cups. Rebranded the UEFA Champions League in 1992, the competition expanded to include runners-up and now multiple national-league qualifiers.
