History
Founded in 1946 as the Basketball Association of America, the NBA took its current form in 1949 after merging with the National Basketball League. The Boston Celtics dynasty of Bill Russell won 11 titles in 13 years; the 1980s rivalry between Magic Johnson's Lakers and Larry Bird's Celtics globalised the game; Michael Jordan's Bulls won six titles in the 1990s; and the modern era has been defined by the Lakers, Spurs, Warriors and Bucks.
