
Yann Tomita (ヤン富田, born 1952) is an avant-garde composer based in Tokyo, Japan. He is also the first professional Japanese steelpan player. During the 1980s, he pioneered various music fields, including Hip Hop, Dub, Acid Jazz, Monde, Exotica, Electronic, lounge, and space age music. He was also part of the band Water Melon Group with Toshio Nakanishi. In the 1990s, he formed bands Doopees and Astro Age Steel Orchestra. Since then, he has also formed Naives in the mid-2000s.
