Willie Wright (born William C. Gathright in Belen, Mississippi, on 7 July 1939; died 4 June 2020) was an American soul singer and songwriter, remembered for his 'rediscovered' 1977 album, Telling the Truth. An enigmatic figure on the 1970s soul scene, Wright has spent much of his career laboring in obscurity. He began making music professionally in New York City where he sang with doo wop groups, but he settled in Boston in the late '60s as the city's hippie scene was on the rise.
