About Versatones
The Versatones is a four member, Afro-American group formed in the South Jersey area in 1956. Actually, their musical background is in classical music. The group was formed while the members were in the US Army and performing with the (Leonard) DePaur Infantry Chorus. Their biggest hit 'Bila' was recorded in 1958 on the Fenway label. The song is unique in that no one can seem to interpret the lyrics, save for a few words. Very little is known about the group, but I believe they did record an album in 1959.
