About Theodor Schwartzkopff
Theodor Schwartzkopff (composer 1659-1732). Of all the composers employed at the court of Württemberg-Stuttgart in the early modern era, Theodor Schwartzkopff is perhaps one of the least well known to today’s concert-going audiences. Yet in his own time he appears to have enjoyed at least modest recognition, judging by Johann Gottfried Walther’s Musicalisches Lexicon (Leipzig 1732), in which Schwartzkopff was described as having been »renowned as a composer« (als Componist berühmt) since the 1680s.
