About The Serenes
The Serenes were an indie band from the town of Joure, The Netherlands. They were active from 1988 to 1995. Fronted by singers, guitarists and main songwriters, Theo de Jong and Paul Dokter, The Serenes' melodic jangle pop drew comparisons to bands like The Feelies, The Chills and early R.E.M.. The melancholic lyrics were said to be inspired by the serenity, silence and scenery of the band's home province of Friesland, in the northern Netherlands.
