About The Gaylettes
The Gaylettes, also known as The Gaylets or The Gaylettes featuring Judy Mowatt, were a reggae female trio from Jamaica in the late ‘60s to early ‘70s consisting of Judy Mowatt, Beryl Lawson and Merle Clemonson. The band formed in 1967 in Jamaica. The group disbanded when Lawson and Clemonson left for America in the early ’70s. Mowatt remained, and went on to join Bob Marley’s famous backup troupe, The I Threes. Mowatt continued to record for decades after, including a prolific spree of gospel albums between 1998-02.
