Stum started out in September 1999 in Östersund, Sweden as a creative project by David Engdahl and Daniel Sidevärn. Under the name Industrijugend, Daniel and David recorded a couple of songs that sounded more industrial/ebm and almost the opposite of how Stum sounds today. 2001 they changed their name to to Stum ('mute' in Swedish) since they didn't feel that the name Industrijugend was representative for their new sound. A sound which is less about ebm and more about melancholic electronic pop.
