He played with jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty before joining the rock band Journey during Journey's most commercially successful period (1978-1985) and on their 1996 comeback album Trial by Fire, as well as Journey offshoot The Storm. He has played with pop artists such as Mariah Carey
