The band is known for blending complex progressive metal with elements of cartoon music and film soundtracks, drawing inspiration from a range of sources including UK, Rush, Steve Vai, Carl Stalling, and Danny Elfman. The original lineup included Ron Jarzombek, his brother and drummer Bobby Jarzombek, and bassist Pete Perez, both of whom were also members of Riot at the time.
