About Sofia Orthodox Choir
Bulgarian musical tradition that can be traced back to the early Middle Ages. There are many works by anonymous authors of sacred liturgic chants. Among the earliest known composers of Bulgarian Medieval Orthodox Music was John Koukouzeles (about 1280-1360), known as "the Angel". About 90 of his works have reached us today. He enriched Byzantine music with Bulgarian intonations, implemented reforms introducing polyphony and refined old musical notations.
