
Silverchair was an Australian rock band formed in 1992 in Newcastle, New South Wales, originally under the name Innocent Criminals. The lineup consisted of Daniel Johns on vocals and guitar, Ben Gillies on drums, and Chris Joannou on bass guitar. The band gained national attention in 1994 after winning a demo competition organized by the SBS TV show Nomad and ABC radio station Triple J. They were subsequently signed by Murmur and achieved both Australian and international success, selling over 10 million albums worldwide.
