Shinya Sugimoto is a New York-based Japanese composer and recording engineer. Sugimoto produces music with computer processing and acoustic instruments such as piano, which he mainly plays. He merges recorded samples, laptop-generated electronic sound and processed/unprocessed improvisational piano phrases into a complex structure of multilayered sound, creates an obscure atmosphere which is often emotional and sometimes very cathartic.
