Salvatore Bertini was an Italian composer, father of Giuseppe Bertini; b. Palermo, 1721; d. there, Dec. 16, 1794. He studied in Palermo before entering the Jesuit Coll. in Naples; subsequently took music courses with Fago and Leo at the Turchini Cons. In 1748 he was appointed substitute maestro di cappella at the Cappella Palatina in Palermo; was named maestro there in 1778. He composed mostly for the church.
