About Roland Young
Roland Young began studying Classical and Jazz clarinet at the age of 9. He was tutored by his grandfather, Lawrence Denton, also a renowned clarinetist and composer. At the age of 14 he formed a vocal group and produced his first vinyl as "Roland Young and the Velveteers". The year afterwards he formed a free improvisation/jazz woodwind trio. Young was on clarinet and two then highschool classmates played on alto and baritone saxophones. He performed with both of his vocal and woodwind bands at local Kansas City venues.
