Rats have Rights was formed in 2004 by Mike Kruk (Tamagokun). The group was formed while Mike was studying at 東海大学 (Tokai Daigaku) in Hiratsuka, Japan. The name came from a hat depicting the logo of a PETA campaign. Since 2005, Mike has returned to America (Michigan), writing new songs in his free time. His songs are strongly influenced by Japanese folk music, as well as many American bands such as Bright Eyes, Damien Rice, and Dashboard Confessional.
