About Playthings

Playthings was a New Zealand band from Christchurch that was active 1981-1982. Members were singer-songwriter Jay Clarkson (bass, vocals), Dave Toland (drums), Nicky Carter (guitar, saxophone, vocals) and Janine Saundercock (guitar, vocals), Paul Kean was manager and soundman and later joined as bass player when Saundercock left and Clarkson shifted to guitar. The band released independent singles in 1981 and 1982. The band split up in May 1982. A live album was released on Flying Nun Records in 1986.
