Philbert Jambe de Fer (fl. 1550’s) was long associated with the bustling city of Lyons, where he published a number of polyphonic settings of the Psalms (using Marot’s and Beze’s translations), and also issued an important manual on instrumental music and the rudiments of music theory, the Epitome musicale (1556). As far as we know, he wrote only a single chanson--the one published here by Du Chemin. See François Lesure, "L'Epitome musical de Philibert Jambe de Fer (1556)," Annales musicologiques, VI (1958-1963), 341-86.
