About Pape Diouf
Born in 1973 in Dakar, Pape Cheikh Diouf comes from a Guewel (griot) family from the Siné-Saloum delta in southwestern Senegal. A veteran of the band Lemzo Diamono, Pape Diouf made his solo debut in 1998 and, with the help of his band, La Génération Consciente, revitalized the classic Dakar m’balax sound. His soulful songs, captivating voice and charismatic stage presence earned him a string of hits, including 2011's "Bèguè", which made him a true superstar in West Africa.
