African street performer turned singer/songwriter who, sadly, died (in 1990) shortly after being discovered. "Nua (whose name means "The People's Brother") has been blind since age two. As a child, he learned to play the Ghanaian thumb piano, and traveled extensively before settling in Accra in the mid-'60s. Nua was mostly a street musician, also performing at social functions, until 1980, when promoter Faisal Helwani encouraged him to try his hand in more formal performance contexts.
