"New Winds" was first used as the name of an American trio of avant-garde woodwind musicians. Later it was used by a Portuguese hardcore group. 1) New Winds was an American trio of Ned Rothenberg ((alto saxophone, bass clarinet, shakuhachi, ocarina), Robert Dick (flute, bass flute, piccolo) and JD Parran (clarinet, alto clarinet, soprano saxophone, contra-alto clarinet, alto flute, bamboo flute) who released several albums starting with "The Cliff" in 1986.
