Nanette Natal is an American folk/jazz artist. She trained as a classical singer with the Helen Hayes Young People's Theater Guild before building a career on the US folk circuit during the 1960s as a singer-songwriter. In the late 1970s, during a pop recording session of Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Lady" at Columbia Recording Studios, an engineer, who had worked with many of Columbia's notable jazz artists, told Nanette that she "had the soul of a jazz singer." She described the moment as a turning point in her musical life.
