About Mike Hanapi
Mike Hanapi (March 18, 1898, Honolulu, Hawaii - 1958) Virtuosic instrumentation and smooth vocal harmonies made Kalama's Quartet one of Hawaii's greatest pre-World War II bands. Led by Honolulu-born saxophonist-turned-steel guitarist Mike Hanapi (1898-1959), the group laid the foundation for all subsequent slack key guitar groups. Hanapi's earliest musical experiences came as a jazz saxophonist. Together with his brother, he performed at the Chicago Exposition in 1910.
