Maarten van Roozendaal was a Dutch singer and songwriter from Heiloo. He gained fame when he won the kleinkunst festival in 1994. Maarten van Roozendaal's tone oozes heavy melancholy, but not in a depressing way and his songs usually result in a smile. Recurring themes are love, death, idiots savants & alcohol. Maarten van Roozendaal is often compared with Jaques Brel and Tom Waits. He accompanies himself on piano, used to play with Kim Soepnel on bass, nowadays Egon Kracht plays the bass, and Marcel de Groot plays guitar.
