With only her guitar under her, Katja Werker began her musical career through the clubs of Germany, and soon became folk music's insider alternative of the 90s. After attaining several awards in newcomer and band competitions in projects with Stefan Stoppok and Paul Lukas (Element Of Crime) as well as journeying to Real World Studios (Peter Gabriel), Katja Maria Werker home-recorded her first album in 1998, "What the Bird Said", and pressed 500 copies.
