About Johann Jacob Weiss
Johann Jacob Weiss (c. 1662 – 1754) was a highly regarded lutenist and composer active in late Baroque Germany. He was active musically in Breslau (now Wrocław, Poland) from at least the mid-1680s (~1686). Around 1708 he was appointed court lutenist at the Palatine Chapel in Düsseldorf, a prominent musical establishment at the Elector’s court. Later he followed this court’s musical establishment during its moves to Heidelberg (1718) and then to Mannheim (1720), where he continued his work until his death on 30 January 1754.
