Hoelderlin (Hölderlin) was a German progressive rock band that was formed in 1970 by brothers Joachim and Christian von Grumbkow with Nanny de Ruig, with whom Christian was married. The trio was influenced by rock, jazz, and folk music. Named after the romantic poet, Friedrich Hölderlin (1770-1843), the band from Wuppertal, Germany, operated between 1970 and 1981, producing, by their own account, "rock music, songs, improvisations on cello, violin
