From the late 1950s until her retirement in the mid 1990s, Hirut Bekele (ሂሩት በቀለ), an Ethiopian singer and songwriter also known as a “magnificent vocalist”, was one of the most popular and successful performers in her nation. Hirut Bekele was born to Lieutenant Bekele Kinfe and Tenagnework Mekonene on October 8, 1942 in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. Hirut was always passionate about music ever since she was a young child, and used to sing around the house with her closest friends.
