Heinrich Nicolaus Gerber (1702–1775) was a Thuringian organist and musician whose career is closely connected with the Bach circle. Born in Wenigen-Ehrich near Sondershausen, he received early organ and theory instruction from the cantor Irrgang of Bellstedt and continued his studies during schooling in Mühlhausen and Sondershausen. After going to Leipzig in 1724 to study law, he joined Johann Sebastian Bach’s pupil circle from 1725, and he is documented as an active copyist and musical witness in sources from that environment.
