For over 15 years, Jesse Germain and Chris Zielinski have been playing music together and participating in different projects within their collective. As guitarists, they cut their teeth on artists ranging from Pavement to Opeth, and Headlay's sound is evidenced by this. After exiting their seminal math rock band Transmission Over due to creative differences, the two started working on song challenges and songwriting under the name Bards, which they later changed to Headlay when they released their first album, "Up All Night."
