The group was started by Tony O'Melley and Peter O. Scott. Stephanie O'Hara is the voice of Harajuku. The idea behind Harajuku music is to create dance versions of commonly known songs from Disney films like The Lion King, Pocahontas, and others, and from musicals like The Phantom of the Opera.
