Hanan Townshend is a New Zealand-born composer and pianist whose work spans contemporary classical music, ambient composition, and film scoring. His music is often described as poetic and immersive, shaped by silence, restraint, and an attention to emotional detail. Townshend is a longtime collaborator of filmmaker Terrence Malick, contributing piano arrangements to the Palme d’Or winning The Tree of Life before going on to score To the Wonder, Knight of Cups, Voyage of Time and is contributing music to the upcoming film Way of the Wind.
