Daryl Hall and John Oates, known collectively as Hall & Oates, was an American musical duo formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1970. Daryl Hall generally served as the lead vocalist, while John Oates primarily contributed guitar and backing vocals. They wrote the majority of their material, either individually or as a team. Their commercial peak occurred between the mid-1970s and late 1980s, during which they developed a style blending elements of rock, soul, and rhythm and blues.
