About Gwen Sampé
A voice without limit, a singer without borders for whom music is an aesthetic both auditory and visual. An improvising singer, following in the footsteps of Betty Carter, her mentor, and Abbey Lincoln, she invites her audience on a journey of words, rhythm and melody, "Rhythmelodics" as John Stevens, the English percussionist, concisely described it. Sometimes "standards", sometimes songs without words, sometimes poetry, children's airs, all are noble passengers on this journey.
