Guillermo Buitrago, one of the most important Colombian folk singer-songwriters, was born on April 1, 1920 in Ciénaga, Magdalena. Buitrago was 29 years old when he died. He has lived on in the melodious valleys of the river Cesar, the Aiguaní and in the heights of Magdalena's Sierra Nevada mountain range. Buitrago's music speaks of the spontaneity, grace and happiness of Colombia's Caribbean, his friends and the Cienaguera women. Guillermo Buitrago died when he was at the apex of his musical career.
