About Giuseppe Arena

Giuseppe Arena (1713 - Malta - November 6, 1784 Naples) was an Italian organist and music composer born in Malta. From 1725 to 1735, he studied at Conservatorio dei Poveri di Gesù Cristo at the Conservatory of Naples. His teachers were Gaetano Greco and Francesco Durante. Among his classmates was later Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. His first opera, Achille in Sciro , was introduced in Rome at Teatro delle Dame in 1738. Other works were then played in Turin , Venice and Naples.
