About Gara Garayev

Gara Garayev, also spelled Kara Karayev and Qara Qareyev, born as Gara Abulfaz oglu Garayev (december 5, 1918 in Baku – May 13, 1982 in Moscow) was a prominent Azerbaijani composer from the Soviet period.. Gara Garayev was a composer far ahead of his time. We, his contemporaries, did not always understand his vision. He made nearly 110 pieces, including ballets, operas, symphonic and chamber pieces, piano solos, cantatas, songs and marches. His imprint on Azerbaijan's music is profound.
