Born in Štip, Macedonia (then Yugoslavia), he was a towering figure in the world of Balkan folk and oriental fusion, often hailed as one of the greatest masters of the čalgija style—a vibrant, improvisational genre that blends Ottoman, Balkan, and Romani musical traditions.
