About Deepika
Deeyah (b. Deepika Thathaal, 7 Aug 1977 in Oslo, Norway) is a pop singer of Pakistani, Afghan & Persian descent. She is sometimes called the "Muslim Madonna" by the media. She started young, releasing two albums in her teens - The first on an independent label, the second with BMG. The second videoclip from this album caused uproar under conservative Muslims claiming Deeyah was a bad Muslim for showing her uncovered back. She and her family were threatened, harassed and worse; during a concert she was attacked on stage.
