Death Chants was a short-lived American experimental folk band formed in in Washington, DC, in March 2005 by Paul Grimes, Rafi Bookstaber and Michael Knight; Alison Stout joined two months later. After Bookstaber and Grimes moved to Philadelphia towards the end of 2006, Death Chants was superseded by smaller musical units including Moon Pie and Aswara. Death Chants recorded two albums for Time-Lag records and there are several more limited releases. The members went on to form Moon Pie and Aswara.
