The music of Days Were Like Lakes straddles genres and influences as wide-ranging as indie, acoustic pop, noise rock, folk, classical, hip-hop, 1960s movie soundtrack music, and minimalism, and takes a variety of different musical approaches, some as simple and straightforward as a single voice and guitar, and others as complex as a full orchestra or a collage of samples - all of which, in the words of one critic (Matt Parker of Sound Proof), “are used to great effect” on the debut album, Light Gets In.
