David Allan Coe (born September 6, 1939) is an American singer and songwriter. He began his musical career after spending time in reform schools and prisons, initially gaining attention by busking in Nashville. Coe started with a blues-oriented style before transitioning to country music, becoming a prominent figure in the 1970s outlaw country movement. His notable songs include "You Never Even Called Me by My Name," "Longhaired Redneck," "The Ride," "Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile," and "She Used to Love Me a Lot."
